For the many years I played Pokemon, I have never expected that this game is not just about surpassing challenges, defeating in-game villains, and complete the challenge of the so-called Pokemon League, but the bigger picture behind this game lies in creating the strongest team for every possible situation.
Nevertheless, the complexity of the game has really put me on the edge of my seat and it is the reason what it made me like this game so much (especially Pokemon X and Y where I learn the leaps and bounds of competitive play). The series is still ongoing and with their latest release of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (a re-telling of the Hoenn saga with some major tweaks and changes in order to match-up the technical capabilities of the new handheld systems), Nintendo is showing us that there are still a lot of Pokemon content to discover and learn as years go by.
So what are the reasons that made me like this game (well other than its complexity, of course)? Well, simply put, a lot of reasons yet their are those that makes it distinct beyond others, so let's begin with my Top 5 Reasons I Liked Pokemon
TOP 5: The story - pretty much in every generation of the series follows a particular plot formula; you are a kid living in a small town and was destined for greatness, being assigned by a Pokemon Professor to catch every last of these magnificent creatures (known as Pokemon, duh), and defeating Gym Leaders left and right while saving the world doing them all at once. Well, it gets pretty old as the series progressed, but you are not alone in this quest; you travel along with a bunch of friends (and rivals along the way) that will help you achieve the greatness you always wanted (not really the main point of the game, but die-hard fans of the franchise will get the idea pretty quickly), however, expect that things will not always go as planned and there will be always someone who wants to ruin your day, and this is where the TOP 4 reason kicks in.
TOP 4: The villains - from the mysterious ambitions of Giovanni and his men to the completely obnoxious fashion sense of Lysandre's lackeys, the villains of the Pokemon universe seems quite interesting. Although I have never played Generation V before, I can only assure of one thing; these villains are no joke. It may be a children's game (to say the least) but if the ambitions of these power-hungry individuals came into a reality, I only pray to God that someone will take the responsibility of ANYTHING that may ensue. Regardless of whatever the plans these self-righteous jerks (yeah, they are all jerks. EVERY. LAST. ONE OF THEM!), these people are one of the reasons that makes the adventure really worthwhile, and it may sound a little crazy, but Lysandre's hair is just so difficult to imitate. Yugi Muto, eat your heart out!
TOP 3: The Pokedex entries - not much an interesting feat here, but another reason behind the success of the Pokemon franchise (for me, at least) is the data that Nintendo done for every creature available in the games. It's like the company is making these creatures as alive as possible. I mean, think about it, is there a deeper meaning behind these Pokedex entries? Well, there isn't much to consider about that, but what if there is? I just can't seem to fathom such facts.
TOP 2: The Pokemon themselves - and what can possibly go wrong if the Pokemon themselves go unmentioned? Well, all of them! Pokemon won't be Pokemon without the Pokemon themselves; majestic creatures of many shapes and sizes. Although, I have to admit that there are some Pokemon designs are pretty out of place. Seriously, who would wanted a garbage bag and a pack of gears for a Pokemon? Well, unless if you are a proclaimed Gym Leader, then there is probably no reason to get these things, but its just my opinion. After all, at the end of the day, you would be needing all of them! Whether it's only a part of your Pokedex collection or as a member of your dream team of competitive Pokemon, I see no reason why you should reject some of them...
TOP 1: The amazing battles - this is the highlight of every Pokemon game, the battles themselves. Fight here, fight there, fight everywhere; that's probably the battle cry of every would-be Trainers (I am simply just a part of the million Trainers around the world) out there, and yes, it can be very tricky. Generation 3 (the one with a giant bear-like creature and a blue killer whale as their cover art) has introduced a lot of mechanics that gave birth to competitive Pokemon battling; the abilities, a more detailed leveling-up system, tons of strategies, and a whole lot more. The Pokemon battles have become the epitome of the series' greatness. Heck, I even bet that the series was meant to be great in the first place!
Well, boys and girls, it seems that this is just one of the few reasons that I liked this series so much, but I am pretty sure about myself that these are the highlights of what makes this series shine through the years. So what makes you like Pokemon? I am pretty excited to tell me what are those reasons. :)
Have a good day everyone :)
